PLI: The Art of Interviewing Pro Bono Clients

Interviewing skills are especially important when working with pro bono and legal services clients. PLI's highly acclaimed, free online course, The Art & Science of Interviewing Pro Bono Clients, will be offered from October 23‑27, 2017.

Chaired by Alicia Aiken, Executive Director of the Confidentiality Institute, this online program will run for five days (varying between 10-45 minutes each day). It is free and open to all, using videos, discussion forums, and other activities that can be viewed at any time convenient to your busy schedule. The course is designed to encourage collaboration and discussion between participants and the instructor.

Topics include:

  • The "art" of collecting information, including framing your interview questions and responding to your client's answers
  • The "science" of collecting information, including preparation for client interviews and asking your client the right questions in the right order
  • How to manage common frustrations for pro bono clients and attorneys
  • Third-party basics, including when a third party is covered by privilege, and communicating the implications of a third‑party presence to your client

As part of PLI's commitment to pro bono activities of the legal profession, there is no fee to participate in this program.
