WHAT YOU WILL LEARN: overview of paralegal and attorney ethics obligations; including authority for ethics rules; duty of the paralegal to meet the attorney's ethical obligations; consequences for attorneys and paralegals when ethical obligations are not met; in depth discussion of competence, diligence, fees/billing and handling client property, leveraging technology to meet the duties of competence and diligence; in depth discussion of confidentiality and privilege, including reference to ethics opinions, case law and real-life examples of attorney/paralegal misbehavior; and much more.

Vicki Voisin, ACP, is a past president of the National Association of Legal Assistants (NALA) and a nationally recognized author and speaker on issues of interest to the legal profession. She has presented many ethics courses and written many articles during her 20+ years as a practicing paralegal. Vicki is an active member of NALA and the Paralegal/Legal Assistant Section of the State Bar of Michigan She is a recipient of the Mentor’s Award from the Section and NALA has also recognized her leadership in the development of the paralegal profession with the presentation of its President’s Award. Vicki presents Basic Ethics I and II, Advanced Ethics, and Ethics & Technology on NALA Campus Live! Vicki is the co-host of The Paralegal Voice, a monthly podcast for and about paralegals produced by Legal Talk Network and the co-author of The Professional Paralegal: A Guide to Finding a Job and Career Success.
