LEEAP Education Program Special Short-Term Volunteer Opportunities
I hope this email finds you well. I am writing to let you know that this fall LEEAP is partnering with two new organizations that will be holding events focused on helping students around the High School Choice process. These are great short-term volunteer experiences if you’re unable to commit to something more long-term. The first event I want to tell you about is by an organization called The GO Project. The GO Project serves academically-struggling and under-resourced elementary and middle public school students from the Lower East Side and Chinatown. LEEAP volunteers will work with individual families to answer questions regarding the admissions process, and helping them make strategic decisions in ranking schools. They will be holding two sessions, the first of which will be next Saturday, October 22nd, and then another on October 29th. Both clinics will be from 10AM to 12:30PM at GO Project, located on 50 Cooper Square, New York, NY 10003. We’re also partnering with the NYC Administration for Children’s Services for their Stepping Up for Academic Success event this fall. The Administration for Children’s Services (ACS) protects and promotes safety and well-being of New York City’s children and families by providing child welfare, juvenile justice, and early care and education services. These children can be the subject of an active child protective investigation, receiving preventive services, in foster care, or transitioning out of the juvenile justice system. The mission of Stepping Up for Academic Success event is to be able to provide the guidance to 5th and 8th grade students on the process of Middle School and High School Choice. LEEAP volunteers will work with 8th grade students to provide one-on-one guidance on appropriate high school choices. The events will take place on several Saturdays in late October running through to November.
I’ve attached flyers advertising these events. I encourage you to check them out, and to please contact me if any of these opportunities are of interest to you. As always, many thanks!
