Free Webinar: Helping Older Borrowers Apply for Total and Permanent Disability (TPD) Discharge

When: Thursday, November 21, 2024
11:00am–12:15pm P.T./2:00-3:15pm E.T.

Coming out of the student loan payment pause, federal student loan debt remains a burden for many Americans, especially older borrowers. Many of these borrowers, age 60 or older, are struggling with a disability that prevents them from working to pay back the loans they took out for their own education or to pay for their children's or grandchildren's education. These borrowers may be eligible to have their federal student loan debt discharged under the Total & Permanent Disability (TPD) Discharge Program.

This webinar, Helping Older Borrowers Apply for Total and Permanent Disability (TPD) Discharge, will cover:

  • Overview of the TPD Discharge Program, including new TPD discharge rules and the application process;
  • Eligibility for the TPD Discharge Program through Social Security Disability determination, Veteran disability status, or disability certification from a qualified medical professional; and
  • Effects of a TPD Discharge.

Presenters:

  • Alpha S. Taylor, Staff Attorney, National Consumer Law Center
  • Anna Anderson, Staff Attorney, National Consumer Law Center

The webinar will take place on Thursday, November 21, 2024 at 11:00am P.T./2:00pm E.T. and will run for 75 minutes.

Capacity for this session is limited to 3,000 participants, and all participants will have the option of accessing audio through the computer or by phone. Closed captioning will be available. Please be sure to log onto the webinar a few minutes early in order to secure your place for the live presentation on Zoom. If you would like to request ASL interpretation or have other accessibility related questions, please email ncler@acl.hhs.gov at least one week in advance.

This webinar will be recorded and available on our website shortly after the presentation. The recording and training materials will also be emailed to all registrants within a few days after the training. We are unable to offer CEU’s or other certifications. Thank you for understanding.
